Fight Rebel Sun
This video has all my favorite Israeli hip hop artists, Shaanan Street (Hadag Nachash), Sagol 59, and Karolina from Habanot Nechama and Karolina and Funkset. Great song.
The Beetle
This film looks amazing. It’s about this guy from Jerusalem who refuses to give up his volkswagen beetle and ends up taking it to Jordan to try and get it repaired.
Jewish life in Muncasz
I found this gem on video.google.com
it’s a collection of video clips from 1933 on various Jewish activities in Muncasz, Hungary. Some really beautiful stuff…
really shows how powerful Hasidism, Zionism and communism were before the war. The top 3 clips have to be, the Rebbe of Muncasz telling the Jews of America that they CAN keep Shabbos, and can reject American culture if they try hard…, the clip of the school kids singing Hatikvah, (this clip is on the big board at the entrance of Yad Vashem), and the massive dancing in the square.
Bene Israel
four preview scenes from an upcoming film on the Jews of India, Bene Israel
Oofnik can’t handle the Pesach wine
In honour of Pesach………….
my roomate’s and I always recall our days of watching rehov sum sum, (Israeli sesame street).
The show I recall watching the clearest was the passover special, which I used to watch every year.
Best part of this clip is when moshe oofnik drinks to much wine at the seder,
(I also included a clip of the intro, which shows Sarah Jessica Parker who used to be the host)
The kids at solomon schechter westchester are loving this song
got to love the mashiach flag jewda maccabi is holding in the background
David’s song
Last year I was working at the Hebrew University and part of my job involved going through some archival material to find information on foreign students who attended the universities in the 60’s and 70’s.
long story short, I stumbled upon this poem that a student wrote in the early 70’s (can’t remember the exact year),
I though I would share the poem with you all,
NB: the ending is missing, so you will have to fill it in on your own
DAVID’S SONG:
Jerusalem Feburary 7th or 8th of my youth
i find no comfort in eternal repose your cemetary peace,
why should i
time as yet offers no whimsical hint
no future entice need strengthen your clench
i exist now and you take advantage
not just of me
but of all who offer payment
an error in Montefiore still all is no lost
even the blessed must accept bounty Jerusalem
you have your fee and so your service
more costly than all the glitter in your discos
hardly as cheap as the blackened stones so religiously thrown
cease this grudge match
state your price Jerusalem
the English could not pay it
i thought they had learned from past charade
pity would they have but accepted Sennacherib’s legacy
he left it for just such a purpose
Jerusalem bound to demand
i bound to heed
your dowry awaits simple gesture
a fulfillment of promise to my fathers
despite their lies….or perhaps in spite of them
i search the wrong cities
they are all you jerusalem
but your markets exhaust me
i would rather sit in your parks
and so i do
only after timeless hours must i now go
do you want me to come are your bags packed
you persist in remaining
why
because you are the host
need you always try to fool me Jerusalem
and what of David’s house
one not so easily fooled
clean up your streets if you await such a guest
in all honesty Jerusalem
Bnei Brak seems a more worthy throne
i cannot help that you must take the blame
why don’t you respond Jerusalem
i knocked on your front door yesterday
but no one seemed to answer
i left a note did you recieve it
when you do answer i leave no message and feel better
i need not worry about nesting birds taking to folded paper
is that selfish of me
sorry but this is my way
feel lucky that i share but a breath
in your life
still I am necessary Jerusalem so be prudent
teach me to help you i said i would learn
are your classrooms clean
school is starting who are your teachers
Ezekial lectures
will you also invite Jeremiah
they taught right in youth we must
listen harder now their voices seem faint with age
remember Jerusalem i will not be taught by your bastard child
this is your appearance now so you realize
i am not joking Jerusalem take me seriously
do not whore your beauty with hotel splendor
can you not admire the gnarled majesty of olive
trees painted with conqueror’s palette
imagine that Godfrey de Bouillon to be fancied an artist
why do you subject yourselves to such poses Jerusalem
they have cut gorges deeply into your gardens
what do you wait for
Sabbath will nto come until you are better prepared
and still you live without shield
Jerusalem you are surrounded by hostile hills
Nebi Samuel peers down mocking your sleep
Abu Ghosh spits bad blood into your veins
——————————————-
hope you enjoyed…

The road to Mecca
A ROAD TO MECCA is about the spiritual journey of Leopold Weiss, a Viennese Jew who converted to Islam in the 1920’s and became the Muslim scholar Muhammad Asad, one of the most important Muslims of the 20th century, spreading its message of peace and brotherhood as a journalist and author of books such as Islam at the Crossroads, The Principles of State and Government in Islam and his autobiography, The Road to Mecca. He served as an advisor to the royal court of Saudi Arabia and was a co-founder of Pakistan and its Ambassador to the UN. (Taken from youtube)
Jewlicious
I feel bad for dissing Diwon hard a few weeks ago. I should tell you that Diwon is a pretty amazing artist, his new album Shir Hashrim is definetly going to be off the hizz, and if you don’t know much about him you should check out his “beat guide to yiddish” and his remix of “Jah is one”,
anyways, this is a clip of all my favorite Jewish hip hop artists freestyling together at the Jewlicious festival,
and a great clip of Y-love…he’s way to intense for me…
Comme ton Pere
All these Tunisian Jewish movies…I don’t know what to do with myself….All I have to say is….word up
Comme ton Pere, or “Just like your dad”, looks like a wonderful film. It’s about a family that leaves their development town in Israel in the late 60’s to try a better life in France. The father, quickly gets involved in the Jewish Arab and Israeli mafia underworld and lands up in jail.
The film is set during the 6 day war and highlights the tensions that existed in the diaspora between Jews and Arabs. It is also a story about a family that comes full circle,
from Tunisia to France to Israel back to France and finally back to where they believe is home…Israel.
Yael Abecassis (Va Vis Et Deviens, Kadosh), is also in this film, and she’s not too tough on the eyes.
the trailer is in french….sorry couldn’t find subtitles.
